Training in Tokyo 3: Seishindo Karate in Oyama, Tokyo
It's been a little while since Ive put out an episode of "Training in Tokyo", but this is one that I have been working on for a while. In this episode, I am featuring the Dojo where I have been studying Karate for several years. Originally, I first went there because I had met the Dojo's master, Taka, on the set of a Geki Rangers movie. He was playing a samurai-type character that the main people were fighting. After that, he mentioned that he was a Karate master, and knew all kinds of Japanese weaponry, and I told him that I was interested in learning how to use a sword for film.
He said that if I wanted, I was welcome to come to his dojo for a private lesson. Once I arrived, he said that in actuality, if you want to learn weapons, you have to start with the staff because that is the most basic one. Fine by me. I wanted to learn that as well. As such, I started with the staff. After I started staff training, he was bothered by the fact that the Japanese system of movement and footwork was so foreign to me and told me that if I really wanted to learn how to move right with the weapons, then I would just have to learn the basic forms as well. As such, I tied a white belt around my waist for the first time in over a decade and got to it. Anyway, beyond that, pretty much anything else you wanna know about the school or Taka himself, you can see in the vid, so I won't bore ya with the details. Here's the vid! Hope ya enjoy it! :)
